Côte D’Ivoire/Beverage market: Some brands vilified at the expense of others

In Côte d’Ivoire, certain brands of alcoholic energy drinks have found themselves at the heart of a media storm, prompting authorities to take drastic measures against these products.

Once popular for their accessibility, flavor, and quality, these beverages are now the target of sharp criticism.

What is particularly surprising is that the beverages in question are mostly from a single German company.

This company, like all foreign firms operating in Côte d’Ivoire, entered the market with authorization and after strict quality checks of its products.

So, what happened for its products to suddenly become the subject of so much controversy?

In reality, this situation stems from unfair competition. Faced with the rapid growth and increasing popularity of the German brands in the Ivorian market, competing companies found it necessary to take action to regain their edge.

Evidence of this is the fact that similar beverages continue to circulate freely in the market even after the suspension of the German company’s products.

The competition exploited the misuse of these products by Ivorian youth to deal a significant blow to the German company.

As proof, the falsely incriminated products are still sold without issue in other countries in the region.
