Bertrand Traoré confirmed for AFCON 2023 despite initial setback

Good news for the Stallions. Bertrand Traoré will be part of the team in Ivorian soil for the AFCON.

Injured during the second round of the World Cup qualifiers and initially held back by his club Aston Villa, Burkinabe forward Bertrand Traoré will indeed join his compatriots for the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The club of the Stallions’ captain has confirmed this.

«Aston Villa confirms Bertrand Traoré will represent Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations. Congratulations and good luck», wrote Aston Villa on its Facebook page and website.

However, the player will not participate in the Stallions’ training camp in Dubai, where they have been staying since December 28, 2023.

He will join the team directly in Bouaké for their first match on January 16, 2024, against Mauritania at the Stade de la Paix de Bouaké.
