Kylian Mbappé inspires PSG’s Champions League Quarter-Final Qualification with record-equalling brilliance

Paris Saint-Germain secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the prestigious Champions League with a convincing double victory over Real Sociedad. Kylian Mbappé, netting three goals over the two matches, further solidified his impressive record in the competition, etching his name deeper into its history.

On Tuesday in the Basque Country, Mbappé led his team to success against a determined Real Sociedad side aiming for a comeback.

The Bondy native first electrified the San Sebastian stadium with an incredible goal in the 15th minute, unleashing a powerful strike that breached the opponent’s goal. The second half saw a similar script unfold.

Set free on a deep pass from Kang-Lee, the former AS Monaco player executed his trademark move, beating the opposing goalkeeper in the 56th minute. Merino’s last-minute goal was merely a footnote.

This return leg encounter allowed Kylian Mbappé to equal two football legends in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

With a total of 18 goals, the captain of the French national team now shares the spotlight with Shevchenko and Raùl Gonzalez.

He still has at least two more matches in the competition to definitively surpass these two predecessors.

Thomas Müller (26 goals) is just ahead of Mbappé, while Cristiano Ronaldo (67 goals), Lionel Messi (49 goals), and Karim Benzema (34 goals) form the top 3.

Paris Saint-Germain’s triumph over Real Sociedad not only cements their place in the next round but also showcases Mbappé’s prowess as a goal-scorer on the grand stage of the Champions League.
