Togo: ARCEP Togo and ARCEP Niger strengthen their partnership in telecommunications
Following President Faure Gnassingbé’s successful diplomatic efforts in resolving the Nigerien crisis, the existing bilateral cooperation between Togo and Niger has deepened. This is evident not only in the revitalization of commercial exchanges but also in the realm of telecommunications.
Against this backdrop, a delegation from Niger’s Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) recently visited Lomé for a working session aimed at knowledge sharing.
In a bid to inject renewed vigor into this cooperation, the two regulatory bodies expressed their eagerness to forge a partnership agreement.
Such an agreement would facilitate ongoing exchanges on other pertinent regulatory matters, alongside discussions on a bilateral Free Roaming agreement between Niger and Togo.
The proposed Free Roaming agreement seeks to ensure accessibility to communication services for Nigerien and Togolese citizens traveling within each other’s countries.
The meeting between ARCEP Togo and ARCEP Niger served as a platform for fruitful exchanges between the two institutions, particularly regarding regulatory practices in electronic communications implemented within their respective jurisdictions.
Moreover, the Nigerien regulatory authority displayed keen interest in ARCEP Togo’s data regulation initiatives, including the deployment of digital platforms.
Additionally, discussions centered on ARCEP’s Quality Management System (QMS) certification process, aligning with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
