Mauricio Pochettino dismissed as Chelsea manager, linked with Manchester United
On Tuesday, it was officially announced that Mauricio Pochettino is no longer the manager of Chelsea. Despite securing European qualification by finishing 6th with 63 points, the Argentine coach was not retained. His next destination could be one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals, as he is a strong contender to replace Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United.
The British Newspaper “The Sun” reported on Wednesday that Pochettino, 52, is highly favoured by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a potential successor to Erik Ten Hag, who is considered no longer capable of leading the first team effectively.
This comes after speculation about Pochettino’s possible move to Manchester United back in 2022 following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, although the club ultimately chose Ten Hag instead.
Manchester United’s final match of the season is the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday (May 25th, 3:00 PM) at Wembley, which might be Ten Hag’s last opportunity to save his job.
Pochettino, who has been a manager since 2009, could join Manchester United as the sixth club of his career and his third in the Premier League, having previously managed Southampton (2012-2014) and Tottenham Hotspur (2014-2019).
Pochettino was brought to Chelsea after a disappointing season that saw them finish 12th in the Premier League under four different managers.
However, he was unable to meet the expectations of owner Todd Boehly, leading to his dismissal.
