Togo: The Government mobilises its citizens to protect the environment during environmental fortnight 2024

The Togolese government, through the Environmental and Sustainable Development Fortnight (QEDD), aims to raise awareness and educate the population about major environmental risks and promote responsible behaviors in the face of environmental challenges.

The third edition of this event was officially launched last Monday by the Minister of Environment and Forest Resources, Foli Bazi Katari.

This year’s theme is “Clean Water, Pure Air, Preserved Soil and Forests: Our Collective Responsibility.

Over two weeks, various activities will take place across the country, aimed at increasing awareness of current environmental issues.

Planned activities include conferences, debates, contests, training sessions, as well as neighborhood clean-up operations. These initiatives aim to encourage citizens to adopt ecological and responsible behaviors.

Adadji Koffi, Director-General of the National Environmental Management Agency (ANGE), emphasized the strategic timing of holding this fortnight in June.

It aims to provoke real awareness and increased commitment to environmental protection through civic and political actions.

Minister Foli Bazi Katari highlighted the country’s main environmental challenges, including combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and addressing pollution and nuisances.

He urged Togolese citizens to embrace mindsets and behaviors conducive to sustainable environmental management.

Since its launch in 2016, the Environmental Fortnight has played a crucial role in promoting a citizen environmental culture in Togo, contributing to raising awareness and educating the population about ecological issues.
