Ronaldo sets unwanted record as Portugal edges Slovenia in Euro 2024 shootout

Portugal progressed to the Euro 2024 quarterfinals after a nail-biting penalty shootout win over Slovenia.

The night, however, was bittersweet for Cristiano Ronaldo, who set an undesirable record in the competition.

In fact, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, became the first player in Euro history to miss two penalties (outside of shootouts).

This disappointing statistic marred an otherwise pivotal victory. Despite Ronaldo’s penalty misfortunes, Portugal moves forward and will now prepare to face France in the quarterfinals.
