Manchester City actively pursues replacement for Ederson Moares

As Manchester City prepares to part ways with Ederson Moares, the club is actively seeking a replacement for the Brazilian goalkeeper, who has played a crucial role in their dominance in English football over the past few years.

Ederson, who joined City from Benfica in 2017, has enjoyed a stellar career at the Etihad Stadium, winning multiple titles, including last season’s historic third consecutive Premier League title—an unprecedented achievement in the league’s history.

With Ederson now 30 years old and reportedly considering a move to Al-Ittihad, Manchester City appears open to his departure.

Donnarumma emerges as top target

In the wake of Al-Ittihad’s interest, Manchester City’s first choice to fill Ederson’s shoes is Stefan Ortega, the club’s current backup goalkeeper, who extended his contract until 2026. However, concerns over Ortega’s reliability have prompted City to explore other options.

Recent reports from journalist Ben Jacobs indicate that Manchester City has initiated contact with Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Italian goalkeeper currently at Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite being under scrutiny in recent months, Donnarumma, whose contract runs until 2026, is considering a move to the Premier League, a dream he harbors at 25 years old.

The arrival of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov at PSG could signal a shift in the club’s goalkeeping dynamics, potentially opening the door for Donnarumma’s exit.

The situation remains fluid, with City keen on securing a top-tier goalkeeper as they navigate the transfer market.
