Togo takes major step towards sustainable transport with new environmental initiative

Under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, Togo is intensifying its environmental policies to curb air pollution caused by vehicle emissions. On August 29, the Ministry of Environment launched the “Readiness project”, a significant initiative aimed at addressing this issue through a partnership with the Green Climate Fund and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

This project represents a pivotal move towards establishing a more environmentally friendly transportation system in the country.

The Readiness project is designed to promote a transportation system that supports green growth while reducing carbon emissions. This initiative is part of Togo’s broader efforts to encourage sustainable mobility and mitigate the harmful effects of greenhouse gases (GHG).

Mery Yaou, the Director of Environment, highlighted that the project aims to implement concrete measures to reduce emissions in the transportation sector.

Marc Freitas, an electric mobility consultant, emphasized the project’s significance, noting that it will assist Togo in developing an effective and gender-sensitive mobility program.

The initiative not only benefits the environment but also aligns with a comprehensive approach to sustainable development.

In line with its climate commitments, Togo has set an ambitious goal to reduce its GHG emissions by 31.14% by 2030.

“The Readiness project”, alongside other initiatives like green mobility, marks a critical step towards achieving this target.
