International: Donald Trump survives second assassination attempt
Donald Trump is reported to be unharmed after a second assassination attempt, as confirmed by the White House on Sunday. The incident occurred near Trump’s golf outing in West Palm Beach, Florida, when gunshots were fired approximately 300 meters from his location.
The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old Democrat, was apprehended with an AK-47, a GoPro camera, and two backpacks.
Routh had previously posted on social media, tagging President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, urging them to attend the funeral of a firefighter killed in a prior assassination attempt against Trump.
He also expressed a desire to die in Krakow, Poland, due to his support for Ukraine.
A witness reported seeing Routh emerge from the bushes and flee in a black Nissan.
The witness provided a photo of the vehicle and its license plate, which helped local authorities quickly locate and arrest Routh, according to Ric Bradshaw of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
In response to the attack, Trump urged his supporters to remain composed and vowed to persist in his campaign despite the threats. He commended the Secret Service for their swift action.
This is the second attempt on Trump’s life, following a previous incident at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13, which resulted in an injury and the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
