Togo: H.E Faure Gnassingbé meets the Director General of the MCC
On the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé held a strategic meeting with Alice Albright, CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
This discussion served as an opportunity for both parties to reaffirm their commitment to Togo’s socio-economic development and to strengthen their partnership aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable growth in the country.
Togo, already benefiting from the MCC’s “Threshold” program, has made significant strides in governance, anti-corruption efforts, and economic sector reforms.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review these achievements and discuss the next steps toward accessing the more comprehensive “Compact” program, which would support large-scale national development projects.
President Gnassingbé expressed the Togolese people’s gratitude for the MCC’s ongoing support, emphasizing the critical role it plays in advancing priority reforms aimed at improving the business climate and attracting more foreign investment.
The discussions also explored potential areas of cooperation in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, which are crucial to Togo’s economic development.
Alice Albright commended the Togolese government’s efforts in promoting good governance and transparency, which are vital to any successful partnership with the MCC.
She reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting Togo in its development initiatives, while encouraging the continued implementation of structural reforms to create a more conducive environment for investment and job creation.
