Burkina Faso: Fight against terrorism, President Ibrahim Traoré calls for unity between the people and the Army

In a powerful address during the 64th anniversary of Burkina Faso’s Armed Forces, President Ibrahim Traoré emphasized the critical need for enhanced civilian-military cooperation in the nation’s ongoing battle against terrorism. The call comes amid escalating security challenges facing the West African nation.

“The security of Burkina Faso is everyone’s responsibility,” declared Traoré, highlighting the vital role civilians play in supporting both regular military forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

His message stressed the importance of public vigilance, accurate information sharing, and united community response in combating terrorist threats.

The President’s appeal reflects a shifting strategy in counterterrorism efforts, recognizing that military success increasingly depends on civilian cooperation.

This approach includes encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities while warning against the spread of misinformation that could undermine defense forces’ morale.

“Terrorism makes no distinction between civilians and military personnel,” Traoré noted, emphasizing how a single piece of intelligence or vigilant action from citizens could save countless lives.

The government’s push for civilian engagement marks a significant evolution in Burkina Faso’s security strategy, moving beyond traditional military responses to embrace a more comprehensive, community-based approach to national defense.

This new emphasis on civil-military collaboration comes as the country faces ongoing security challenges, particularly in its northern and eastern regions.
