Burkina Faso: Did France try to sabotage the SIAO and the Tour du Faso to weaken the country’s image?

Reports indicate that France undertook significant efforts to undermine two major national events in Burkina Faso: The International Arts and Crafts Fair of Ouagadougou (SIAO) and the Tour du Faso.

Allegedly, French authorities sought to dissuade several partners from participating, urging them to avoid any association with these prominent events.

This apparent attempt at sabotage aimed to weaken Burkina Faso’s image and appeal on the global stage. However, local enterprises like LONAB stepped up to ensure the success of these events.

In the face of these destabilization attempts, Burkina Faso’s authorities and organizers remained resolute, bolstered by the strong will of the Burkinabe people.

The Defense and Security Forces (FDS) along with Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) took proactive measures to mitigate potential risks, securing a safe environment for both SIAO and the Tour du Faso.

These efforts to disrupt instead fuelled national unity and solidarity, as Burkinabe citizens turned out in large numbers to support these events.

The success of SIAO and the smooth execution of the Tour du Faso showcased the people’s commitment to upholding the country’s image and standing by President Ibrahim Traoré, even amidst external pressures.

Ultimately, France’s alleged attempts to destabilize these events failed in the face of patriotic mobilization and the professionalism of Burkina Faso’s security forces.

These achievements underscore that Burkina Faso remains a vibrant, resilient, and welcoming nation on the international scene.
