Champions League Quarter-Final/ PSG take commanding lead over Liverpool

PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain seized control of their Champions League tie with a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

Desire Doue opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a deflected effort that looped over Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the lead in the 65th minute, calmly rounding the keeper after a piercing pass from Joao Neves.

Liverpool, who started without Mohamed Salah and handed returns to Jeremie Frimpong and Alexis Mac Allister, struggled to create clear chances. Alexander Isak came on as a late substitute but could not spark a comeback.

The Reds must now overturn a two-goal deficit at Anfield next Tuesday to reach the semi-finals, where they would face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

Mamardashvili made several key saves to keep Liverpool in contention, including an outstanding stop to deny Doue.

PSG thought they had a penalty when Ibrahima Konate fouled Neves, but VAR overturned the decision.

Ousmane Dembele hit the post late on as the hosts finished strongly, leaving Liverpool with a mountain to climb in the return leg.
