Togo – Burkina Faso: Towards strategic cooperation between tax authorities

The partnership between Togo and Burkina Faso continues to grow stronger, with potential expansion to their respective tax administrations on the horizon. On November 5, a meeting between Philippe Tchodie, Commissioner General of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR), and Eliane Djiguemde-Ouedraogo, Director of Taxes in Burkina Faso and Chair of the Council of the West African Tax Administrations Forum (FAFOA), highlighted this possibility.

This collaboration could see Togo providing technical and strategic support to Burkina Faso’s tax administration, focusing on key projects for the country.

Discussions centered on supporting Burkina Faso in optimizing its tax system and on revitalizing FAFOA, which includes 15 countries across the subregion. The partnership aims to harmonize tax practices to facilitate economic cooperation and enhance the capacity of tax administrations in both countries.

The OTR Commissioner emphasized the significance of such collaboration, stressing that in an increasingly globalized world, no country can progress in isolation.

By sharing expertise and adopting common practices, the two nations seek to strengthen their economic resilience and address tax-related challenges.

This closer cooperation could represent a major step forward for both countries, improving tax revenue collection, enhancing public services, and contributing to greater economic integration within the region.
