Russia: Putin invites AES countries to the Army-2025 Forum

Relations between Russia and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are gaining momentum, marked by a recent diplomatic tour by Russian envoys. Representing President Vladimir Putin, the delegation visited Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to formally invite them to the 11th International Military and Technical Forum, Army-2025, set to take place in Russia next year.

This forum, a prominent global platform showcasing advancements in defense and security technology, highlights the growing partnership between Moscow and the Sahelian nations.

It comes at a time when these countries are redefining their geopolitical alliances, pivoting from traditional ties with Western powers like France to exploring alternative collaborations.

The invitation underscores Russia’s commitment to supporting the AES in its pursuit of military autonomy and enhanced security capabilities.

Over the past years, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have increasingly turned to Russia for strategic partnerships, leveraging Russian expertise to strengthen their defense systems and technological frameworks.

Army-2025 offers these nations a prime opportunity to explore cutting-edge military innovations, including advancements in air defense, cybersecurity, and weaponry.

Beyond the technology showcase, the forum is expected to foster deeper bilateral and multilateral discussions, paving the way for expanded cooperation in security and beyond.

This initiative reflects a broader shift in the Sahel, as nations seek diversified partnerships to address regional challenges, reaffirm their sovereignty, and build robust defense mechanisms in collaboration with global powers like Russia.
