Burkina Faso launches military health insurance fund to support soldiers and families

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Brigadier General Célestin Simporé, Minister of State for Defense and Veterans Affairs, presided over the official launch of the Military Health Insurance Fund (CAMA). This groundbreaking initiative aims to provide equitable and comprehensive healthcare coverage to military personnel of all ranks and their families, marking a significant step toward alleviating the burdens faced by soldiers on the frontlines or deployed on missions.

The CAMA addresses a critical concern for military personnel, who often grapple with the dual pressures of their duties and worries about their families’ well-being. With this fund, soldiers’ spouses and children will now have access to quality healthcare, offering peace of mind to those in uniform.

Colonel-Major Saidou Yonaba, Director General of CAMA, highlighted that the fund is built on three core principles: access to quality care for all, solidarity and equity, and transparency and sustainability.

He also noted that military personnel can access healthcare services not only through military facilities but also within the national health system.

To ensure a strong start, the government has allocated a reserve fund of 2 billion CFA francs. Minister Simporé emphasized that CAMA aligns with the government’s strategic priorities for stabilization and development.

He urged the fund’s leadership to uphold excellence, transparency, and dedication in managing the program, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all military families.

The establishment of CAMA reflects the nation’s gratitude toward those who dedicate their lives to defending Burkina Faso’s territorial integrity.

Housed in the former headquarters of the Armed Forces General Staff, the fund represents a milestone in improving the living conditions of military personnel and their families, while bolstering their commitment to serving the nation.

This initiative stands as a testament to the government’s resolve to honor and support its defenders.
