Burkina Faso: Schools reopen in Nayala Province as security improves

After a prolonged closure due to insecurity, schools in the villages of Kalabo, Zelassé, and Tandou, located in Burkina Faso’s Nayala province (Boucle du Mouhoun region), have finally reopened this week. This marks the resumption of classes in three additional educational institutions, allowing children—the leaders of tomorrow—to once again enjoy their fundamental right to education.

According to reports, this achievement was made possible by the relentless efforts of the 10th Mobile Intervention Unit Grouping Groupement d’Unités Mobiles d’intervention (GUMI-10), a specialized unit deployed to combat criminal elements threatening the region’s peace.

After successfully clearing the area of armed groups, these security forces are now ensuring the safety of residents and their property, enabling communities to live in relative calm.

The Burkinabe authorities and security forces remain steadfast in their mission to liberate the entire country from terrorist groups, aiming to restore peace and stability for all citizens.

This commitment has led to intensified military operations nationwide, resulting in the gradual return of security to several regions and the repatriation of displaced populations.

Beyond securing reclaimed areas, the government is also prioritizing development initiatives to improve the livelihoods of residents.

This dual approach not only fosters community resilience but also undermines the influence of criminal groups that exploit vulnerable populations, often recruiting young people or inciting unrest.

For Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the fight against terrorism is inseparable from development.

He views economic and social progress as a complementary strategy to combat the root causes of insecurity, ensuring a sustainable path toward peace and prosperity for the nation.
