Niger/Security: More gendarmes to ensure security for the entire nation

The Republic of Niger is strengthening its National Gendarmerie by increasing its personnel to enhance security and ensure more effective territorial protection. Since the Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) assumed power, under the leadership of General Abdourahamane TIANI, the transitional president and head of state, the country has been committed to bolstering its military capabilities—both in terms of manpower and equipment.
Faced with persistent threats from terrorism and organized crime, Niger is taking decisive measures to safeguard its citizens, protect property, and maintain normalcy in daily activities.
As part of this strategic effort, a new cohort of gendarmes officially joined the force on Monday, February 24, marking a significant step in enhancing the operational strength of the Nigerien armed forces.
A total of 2,002 new officers, including 174 women, have been integrated into the National Gendarmerie.
These recruits will take on the vital responsibility of defending the nation and ensuring the integrity of its borders.
Aware of the challenges ahead, they embark on a demanding yet honorable journey dedicated to upholding security and serving the people.
They have been urged to demonstrate unwavering commitment, exemplary conduct, and discipline—embodying the core values of their profession.
As both soldiers and enforcers of the law, they are expected to uphold justice with integrity while maintaining the highest standards of service and dedication to the nation.
