Malian Government highlights key achievements during council of Ministers session

Presided over by His Excellency General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition, the Council of Ministers convened in an ordinary session on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Koulouba Palace.

The meeting showcased several strategic government initiatives spanning youth development, culture, sports, and public health—underscoring Mali’s commitment to addressing current challenges while laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future.

The Minister of Youth and Sports briefed the Council on the outstanding performance of Mali’s U-17 national team, Les Aiglonnets, at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The young Eagles secured a silver medal and earned a spot in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar this November.

Additionally, Mali’s participation in the ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York highlighted the government’s efforts in youth inclusion, financing, and employment opportunities.

Culture and Artisanry: Strengthening heritage and social protection

The Minister of Artisanry and Culture announced two major initiatives:

  • The launch of a voluntary insurance scheme for professionals in the cultural, artisan, and tourism sectors—developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health—to enhance social protection.
  • The upcoming 2025 Artistic and Cultural Biennale, to be held in Timbuktu, will celebrate Mali’s rich diversity under the theme: “Culture: The Foundation for Anchoring the 4th Republic.”

Public health: Vigilance against Dengue outbreak

The Minister of Health raised concerns over a resurgence of dengue fever cases. President Goïta issued a solemn appeal for strict adherence to preventive measures to curb the disease’s spread and safeguard public health.

A Government committed to national progress

From nurturing young talent to preserving cultural heritage and reinforcing public health measures, the April 23 Council of Ministers session demonstrated the Transitional Government’s unwavering dedication to Mali’s resilience and development. Each initiative reflects a pragmatic and forward-looking approach, ensuring the nation remains on a steady path toward stability and prosperity.
