Togo sets date for 2025 municipal elections, promotes inclusive democracy

Following the voter registration process, the Togolese government has taken decisive steps to strengthen democratic participation. At Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting in Lomé, authorities officially set Thursday, July 10, 2025 as the date for municipal elections, when citizens will elect their local representatives.

To ensure an orderly, transparent, and fair electoral process, the campaign period will run from Tuesday, June 24, at midnight, until Tuesday, July 8, at 11:59 PM. During this time, candidates will present their development plans and engage with voters on local priorities.

In a significant move to boost women’s political participation, the government has introduced a reduced filing fee: 25,000 CFA francs for female candidates, half the 50,000 CFA francs required for male candidates. This measure aligns with Togo’s commitments to gender equality and inclusive governance.

Additionally, the government has allocated 500 million CFA francs in public funding to support the electoral campaign, in compliance with legal provisions. Security forces will be deployed nationwide to safeguard the voting process.

Through these elections, Togo reaffirms its commitment to participatory local governance and a modern, equitable democracy, further solidifying its foundations for sustainable development.
