South Africa slams US plan to resettle White Afrikaners as refugees

South Africa has condemned reported US plans to accept white Afrikaners as refugees, calling the move “politically motivated” and an attack on the country’s democracy. The US reportedly prioritizes their resettlement under President Trump, who claims they face “racial discrimination.”

South African officials deny systemic discrimination, stating crime data does not show white farmers are targeted. While they won’t block departures, they demand proper vetting of applicants.

The US State Department confirmed interviews with Afrikaners seeking refuge but didn’t specify a timeline. Reports suggest 54 may arrive soon, with a press event planned at Dulles Airport.

Critics highlight the irony, as Trump restricts asylum for others while aiding a privileged group. Elon Musk, a Trump adviser, has accused South Africa of “genocide” against white farmers—a claim Pretoria rejects.

The dispute follows US accusations of land seizures, which South Africa denies. The move deepens tensions between the two nations over race and immigration policies.
