Togo: Université de Lomé-CCI-Togo, a strategic partnership for better-trained young people and a stronger private sector

In a context where the mismatch between university training and labor market demands hinders youth employability, the University of Lomé (UL) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Togo (CCI-Togo) have launched a strategic partnership aimed at creating a lasting link between academia and the private sector. Backed by the top officials of these institutions, this ambitious collaboration aligns with the government’s vision of making education and innovation key drivers of national development.

By focusing on practical training, applied research, and especially professional integration, the partnership aims to equip students with the tools they need to become real contributors to development. The upcoming opening of a Business School is a clear reflection of this goal. The ambition is to train professionals who can meet the concrete needs of local businesses while also being competitive at regional and international levels.

This project fully aligns with the priorities set by the Chairman of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, who has consistently supported the alignment of higher education with the productive sector. The development of project incubation programs, internships in CCI-Togo-affiliated companies, and the promotion of applied research will not only enhance the employability of young graduates but also foster the emergence of a more dynamic and innovative private sector.

By encouraging this synergy between university and business, Togo is taking a new step toward inclusive growth—driven by a better-trained youth and supported by institutions that are attuned to the country’s economic challenges.
