Burkina Faso / Endeavour Mining: A 2024 balance sheet marked by solid social, economic and environmental commitments

On Monday, July 7, 2025, in Ouagadougou, mining company Endeavour Mining presented its 2024 Sustainability Report.
This annual exercise, which has become a regular practice since 2022, highlights the company’s economic, social, environmental, and humanitarian performance, with notable actions carried out in Burkina Faso.

During the presentation, Souleymane Boly, Endeavour Mining’s Country Director and Vice President of Public Affairs in Burkina Faso, recalled that the group operates two mines in the country: Houndé (since 2017) and Mana (formerly SEMAFO Burkina). Across West Africa, Endeavour Mining manages a total of five mining sites.

Socially, the company generated more than 4,640 direct and indirect jobs in 2024, 97% of which are held by Burkinabè nationals and 10% by women. Endeavour Mining also welcomed 121 young interns to its Houndé and Mana sites, awarded 20 four-year university scholarships to Burkinabè students, and supported 287 women in Siou in rice production, contributing to their economic empowerment.

Economically, the company contributed over 135 billion CFA francs to the national budget and 5.2 billion CFA francs to the Local Mining Development Fund. Local procurement in Burkina Faso amounted to 279 billion CFA francs, underlining the company’s commitment to strengthening the national supply chain.

On the humanitarian front, Endeavour Mining invested 600 million CFA francs in support of internally displaced persons (IDPs), 40 million for the rehabilitation of the Baporo Agricultural Correctional Facility, and 73 million to improve conditions at the Ouagadougou Remand and Correctional Center, including the construction of a visitors’ hall and a courtroom facility for mobile hearings.

In the health sector, the company implemented strong preventive measures that led to a 36% reduction in malaria cases at its sites, illustrating efforts to enhance health resilience among its workforce.

This 2024 report reflects Endeavour Mining’s broad commitment to Burkina Faso’s sustainable development and its long-term investment in local communities.
