Burkina Faso: European Union ambassador received by President Ibrahim Traoré at the end of his mission

Ouagadougou, July 14, 2025 – President Ibrahim Traoré Receives EU Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi at the End of His Mission.

On Monday morning, the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, received His Excellency Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi, Ambassador of the European Union to Burkina Faso, on the occasion of the conclusion of his diplomatic mission in the country.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the European diplomat to review the state of bilateral cooperation between the European Union and Burkina Faso, while expressing his gratitude to the Head of State before his departure.

In a statement following the audience, Ambassador Gaztelumendi highlighted the progress made during his tenure in key sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, employment promotion, and agricultural value chains.

“Very recently, we signed four new financing agreements totaling 80 million euros to continue this work in strategic areas of the country, particularly in the southwest and secondary cities. These funds will be used to improve roadways, markets, and to strengthen agricultural value chains”, the ambassador noted.

Commending Burkina Faso’s commitment in a difficult national context, the EU representative expressed deep admiration for the Burkinabe people.

“The Burkinabe demonstrate incredible energy, resilience, and know-how. I have been profoundly impressed by their determination in the face of adversity”, he said emotionally, while extending his best wishes for the country’s future.

This meeting takes place at a time when the European Union continues to maintain strong engagement with Burkina Faso despite regional uncertainties. The newly announced financial commitments reflect the EU’s ongoing dedication to supporting development efforts and bolstering the resilience of local communities.
