Manchester City dominate United 3-0 in derby showdown

Just days before their Champions League clash with Napoli and a Premier League trip to Arsenal, Manchester City gained confidence with a commanding 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

Two weeks after their defeat at Brighton, Pep Guardiola’s men faced their neighbors in the fourth round of the league, missing Cherki, Aït-Nouri, and Marmoush through injury. United, meanwhile, handed a start to Amad Diallo, last season’s derby hero, in place of the injured Cunha.

Under heavy Manchester rain, City wasted no time imposing themselves. Erling Haaland tested Bayindir within the opening minute, before Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a powerful header, following excellent work from Jeremy Doku. United struggled to respond, mustering just one shot on target in the entire first half, while City remained firmly in control at the back through Ruben Dias.

After the break, City struck again. Doku once more unlocked United’s defense, finding Haaland, who chipped Bayindir to double the lead in the 53rd minute. Moments later, the Norwegian nearly added another, only to be denied by the post. United’s best chance came through Mbeumo, whose volley was brilliantly saved by Donnarumma.

City sealed the result in the 68th minute when Bernardo Silva played Haaland through, and the striker clinically netted his 90th Premier League goal in just 101 appearances.

The Sky Blues cruised to their first clean sheet of the season, moving up to eighth, while United sank to 14th after their second defeat in four games.
