Minaj Backs Trump on Nigeria claims, despite contested facts

Rapper Nicki Minaj has publicly endorsed the claims of Christian persecution in Nigeria of the former President Donald Trump, speaking at a US-organized UN event. She stated Christians are “targeted,” citing burned churches and torn-apart families.

However, analysts and data contradict this narrative. Monitoring groups report that the majority of victims from jihadist violence in Nigeria are actually Muslims.

The Nigerian government has rejected the claims, stating terrorists attack “all who reject their murderous ideology” regardless of faith.

Recent attacks underscore the complex reality. While gunmen killed two in a Kwara church, assailants also abducted 25 Muslim schoolgirls in Kebbi, killing two Muslim staff members.

Experts say deadly disputes are often driven by competition for resources and ethnic tensions, rather than religion solely.

President Tinubu has acknowledged a surge in violence, postponing a foreign trip to address the nation’s security crisis.

Minaj’s comments mark a significant political intervention for the artist, who has previously spread vaccine disinformation.
