Burkina Faso Government announces major administrative and economic reforms

Ouagadougou, November 27, 2025 –During a cabinet meeting chaired by President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabe government approved a series of significant measures targeting administrative efficiency, public transport, and workers’ rights.

A key decree was adopted to reorganize the General Secretariat of the Government and the Council of Ministers.

The reform aims to enhance public administration effectiveness by granting the Secretary General ministerial status and creating new technical advisor positions.

In the economic sector, the government decided to assume full control of the public transport company SOTRACO.

This move is intended to revitalize urban transport, with a specific focus on services for students.

Significant financial decisions included the acquisition of the land housing the Saint-Joseph high school to bolster state assets, alongside fiscal adjustments to fund research and innovation.

A revision of the Labor Code was also proposed to promote decent working conditions, combat the abuse of precarious contracts, and strengthen worker protections.

The council also reviewed preparations for upcoming events, including the 3rd National Green Economy Academy in December 2025 and World Toilet Day commemorations, underscoring the government’s focus on sustainable development and public health.
