Burkina Faso/Counter-terrorism: Only Burkinabe can finance their war against terrorist groups

Since the advent of the Special Anti-Terrorist Plan (MPSR) led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré at the end of September and the beginning of October 2022, Burkina Faso has decided to independently fund and lead the fight against terrorist groups that have been threatening the country for over eight (08) years.

This decision is already yielding positive results, thanks to the involvement of citizens and the determination of authorities, as well as the combat forces.

As the war intensifies and enters a decisive phase, Burkinabe taxpayers are called upon to make greater efforts and sacrifices to support the fighters who are on the ground and doing a remarkable job.

The government aims to strengthen military logistics and improve the standard of living for Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

To this end, it was decided in a cabinet meeting on Friday, January 5, 2024, to implement salary deductions.

Specifically, starting from January 2024, the government will deduct 1% of the net salary of public and private sector employees each month, 25% from workers’ bonuses, and 5% from ministerial salaries.

 This will contribute to the anti-terrorism fund, providing the necessary resources.

Appropriate and essential equipment needs to be acquired, and the authorities also plan to increase the allowance for Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) from 60,000 to 80,000 XOF.

This is a way to encourage them to sacrifice even more for the security of the homeland.

According to the Minister of Economy and Finance, workers who were contributing voluntarily can, if they wish, continue or end their voluntary contributions.
