Georgia stuns Portugal to advance to Euro 2024 knockout Stage, Turkey joins the fray

The Euro 2024 group stage concluded with the final matches of Group F. In a surprising turn of events, Georgia, in their debut appearance, secured a historic win against Portugal, advancing to the Round of 16.

Under coach Willy Sagnol, Georgia struck early in the second minute when Mikautadze capitalized on a Portuguese defensive error, assisting Kvaratskhelia for a precise left-footed goal past Costa.

Despite relentless attacks from Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates, Georgia’s defense held firm until halftime.

Continuing their momentum into the second half, Georgia extended their lead in the 57th minute with a penalty converted by Mikautadze, cementing their historic victory.

This win marked Georgia’s first advancement to the Euro knockout stages, while Portugal, despite their loss, still topped the group.

Meanwhile, Turkey also progressed to the Round of 16, finishing second in Group D.

They secured their spot by defeating the Czech Republic 2-1, trailing only behind the surprise group winner, Georgia, and ahead of Portugal and the Czech Republic.
