Juventus signs a talented Brazilian from a Premier League club
After weeks of speculation, it’s official: Juventus has made its first summer signing, acquiring Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz.
Newly appointed Juventus manager Thiago Motta announced the signing, with Luiz joining from Aston Villa on a contract extending until 2029.
His performances at Girona led him to Aston Villa, where he excelled, scoring his first goal for the Brazilian national team in 2019.
During his time in the Premier League, Luiz scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 204 matches.
The transfer deal, valued at €50 million payable over four years, includes additional costs of €1.5 million.
Juventus announced, “Juventus Football Club S.p.A. has reached an agreement with Aston Villa Football Club for the permanent acquisition of Douglas Luiz Soares de Paulo’s registration rights. The player has signed a contract with Juventus until June 30, 2029.”
Douglas Luiz made his European debut during a two-season loan at Girona, playing 46 matches in Spain before moving to Aston Villa, where he established himself in international football.
He made his debut for the Brazilian national team in November 2019 and is currently participating in the Copa America with Brazil.
