Sahel : After Burkina Faso, French media once again target Mali to destabilize the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)

French media, particularly those aligned with certain foreign interests, seem to be pursuing a targeted disinformation strategy against the member countries of the Sahel States Alliance (AES). After spreading false information about Burkina Faso, notably on June 12, 2024, following the rocket attack incident, these media outlets are now turning their attention to Mali to sow discord. Fabricated information is circulating, falsely claiming unverified facts and being relayed by local collaborators.

The primary objective of these disinformation campaigns is to destabilize Mali and the entire AES by fueling tensions and undermining regional governance and security efforts. Recent biased publications not only aim to discredit Malian authorities but also to weaken cohesion within the alliance by exacerbating internal divisions and creating artificial conflicts.

It is important to note that these media manipulations are not an isolated phenomenon but rather a continuation of the disinformation strategies previously observed against Burkina Faso. The same “lie factories” that spread fake news against the country of Captain Ibrahim Traoré are now targeting Mali, using similar tactics to influence public opinion and divert attention from real regional issues.

To counter this trend, it is essential that the Malian authorities, the Malian people, and the AES member countries remain vigilant against such false information and strengthen their defenses against these manipulative narratives.
