Barcelona’s Turmoil: clash between Xavi and Raphinha casts shadow on New Year’s debut

Amidst FC Barcelona, an unexpected surge in tension has cast a shadow over the commencement of the new year. In the match against Las Palmas for the 19th round of La Liga, a heated altercation unfolded between Raphinha and coach Xavi Hernandez.

Despite being the first match of the year for the Catalan club, it is already marred by an internal controversy, exposing the deepening divides within the team.

As disclosed by a Sky Sports commentator live on air, Xavi displayed visible anger towards Raphinha over a perceived offside position.

While attempting to relay instructions to the player, Xavi did not hold back in reprimanding him with a volley of insults.

This reaction triggered a sharp and brutal response from the former Leeds United player. «I am close to Xavi, and he just gave instructions to Raphinha after an offside by the player, with a lot of insults and reprimands that I cannot repeat out of respect… Raphinha responded, ‘I can’t do anything else, » narrated the commentator.

This incident portrays a dispute that underscores serious internal tensions within FC Barcelona, indicating challenges that appear far from being resolved.
