AES/Russia: Cooperation for better or for worse

Solidarity in times of adversity as well as in moments of prosperity is the foundational principle guiding the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Recent reactions from these three countries towards Russia speak volumes about this bond.

Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have recently shared both joyous and sorrowful moments with their esteemed and genuine partner, the Russian Federation.

It’s noteworthy that following the re-election of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, March 17, the authorities of these three countries extended their congratulations and encouragement to their Russian counterparts and people.

Furthermore, in response to the tragic terrorist incident on Friday, March 22, which claimed the lives of at least 60 people and injured 145 others according to preliminary reports from emergency and rescue services, the authorities of the three countries once again officially expressed their compassion and solidarity with the president, the victims, and the Russian populace at large.

Through official statements released on March 22, the presidents of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, and Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani, each conveyed messages of solace.

They also expressed their intent to bolster relations in order to effectively combat these criminal acts.

This underscores the robust and genuine security cooperation between the authorities of Russia and those of the AES countries.

It reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and consideration, showcasing the strength of their bond during challenging times.
