Zambia: The African Land forces summit takes place in Livingstone

The annual summit of African land forces is currently underway until April 26, 2024, in Livingstone, the scenic capital of Zambia. More than 500 delegates representing 40 countries from Africa, Europe, and the Americas have gathered to discuss the complex security challenges facing the African continent.

Under the theme «Regional Solutions to Transnational Problems», participants are exploring ways to strengthen regional cooperation to address common security challenges.

During the opening session, Zambian Defense Minister Ambrose Lufuma emphasized the crucial role of defense forces in ensuring peace and fostering economic development in Africa.

Zambian Army Commander Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi highlighted the current challenges facing the continent, including terrorism, human trafficking, migration, and instabilities related to climate change.

He stressed the importance of sharing experiences and solutions among armed forces to tackle these transnational challenges.

Major General Todd Wasmund, Commander of the US Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), expressed the US military’s appreciation for Zambia’s contribution to regional peace and security.

He underscored the United States’ commitment to collaborating with African partners to enhance their capabilities in combating threats posed by transnational criminal organizations and extremist groups.

The summit will continue with in-depth discussions and exchanges aimed at finding effective solutions to address security challenges in Africa and beyond.
