Togo: The Togolese Government strengthens its commitment to improving living conditions through the GEDEC project

The Togolese government is reaffirming its commitment to improving citizens’ living conditions through the GEDEC Project (Waste Management and Decentralization Project).

Recently, the local steering committee (CO-PIL) of this ambitious project initiated its activities in Sokodé, marking a significant advancement in sustainable waste management.

The event, held alongside the Environment Fortnight, allowed local authorities to gain a comprehensive understanding of the operations at the Communal Treatment Center for Sanitation (CECOTRA).

The visit particularly highlighted the essential roles of the Technical Waste Landfill Center (CET) and the Sewage Treatment Station (STBV) located in Tchaoudjo 1 municipality.

Korodowou Ahini-Mankana, the mayor of Tchaoudjo 1, underscored the strategic importance of the GEDEC project, which is funded by the European Union with more than 3 billion FCFA.

This initiative is part of the broader Program for Strengthening Local Public Services – Sanitation and Waste (PRSPL), complementing other projects such as the Water and Sanitation Project (PEAT 1 and 2) initiated in 2015.

Through GEDEC, local authorities are mobilizing all relevant stakeholders to create efficient and suitable services that are crucial for effective waste management and sanitation.

In addition to Tchaoudjo 1, other municipalities including Tone 1, Kozah 1, Ogou 1, and Zio 1 are also benefiting from this innovative project.

This project reflects the Togolese government’s unwavering commitment to promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for all its citizens, while also strengthening local capacities in waste management and sanitation.
