Mali and Mauritania strengthen security cooperation amid rising border threats

Mali and Mauritania continue their concerted efforts to devise a robust strategy for tackling the shared security challenges along their border, plagued by terrorism and other forms of insecurity.

The two nations are committed to pooling resources to effectively address these threats.

This ongoing collaboration was underscored by the recent visit of Mauritania’s Defense Minister, General Hanana Ould SIDI, to Bamako.

On June 26, 2024, General SIDI met with Mali’s Defense Minister, Colonel Sadio Camara, in what was reported to be a closed-door meeting.

The discussions focused on enhancing security cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.

Both nations have previously expressed a strong commitment to combating cross-border terrorism and fostering peace among their border communities.

These topics were central to the latest high-level discussions.

Following the bilateral talks, the Mauritanian delegation, led by General SIDI, visited the Koulouba Palace to meet with Mali’s transitional President, Colonel Assimi Goita.

This visit further emphasized the importance of their partnership in ensuring regional stability and security.
