Niger/Counter-terrorism: Fighting forces hunt down criminals

Since the deadly terrorist attack on a military post in the village of Tassia, Tillabéri region, on June 25, Niger’s defense forces have launched relentless operations to track down the assailants.

Both ground and aerial operations are being conducted day and night against these militants.

Reports indicate that the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) under Operation Niyya have executed multiple actions from June 30 to July 3, 2024.

These efforts have yielded daily successes, with the Nigerien army announcing the neutralization of over a hundred terrorists to date.

Military authorities in Niger have stated that the forces are conducting a series of cordon and search missions in weekly markets. Alongside ground operations, airstrikes continue to target terrorist groups responsible for the recent attack in Tassia.

This region, located near the tri-border area, has been severely threatened by terrorist activities.

The intensified operations by the FDS have led to significant results, showcasing the fighters’ commitment, bolstered by national authorities, to defend their homeland and tirelessly work towards restoring peace and stability.

An upcoming historic meeting in Niamey between the leaders of the Sahel Alliance countries will address the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

The summit aims to finalize strategies for a more effective fight against terrorism and ensure the security of the region’s populations.
