Burkina Faso: Environmental police break up a network linked to cyanide-contaminated containers

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is strengthening its health and environmental protection policy in response to the proliferation of hazardous products. The government, through its specialized agencies, is intensifying control measures to prevent the circulation of toxic substances that could threaten the population and degrade the living environment.

As part of this dynamic, the General Directorate of Environment and Living Environment, through the Environmental Police, conducted an operation on March 31, 2026, in Ouagadougou.

Alerted about the sale of suspicious empty crates at the Tanghin market, the team led by Amadou Ouédraogo carried out a swift intervention, leading to the arrest of a first vendor and the immediate sealing of the products.

Investigations made it possible to trace back to a supplier located outside the capital.

A search of the indicated site revealed a vast warehouse containing various types of waste, including cyanide residues, contaminated sachets, and other potentially harmful materials, confirming the existence of an organized network.

Given the seriousness of the facts, the site was closed and those responsible were summoned, with the prospect of criminal penalties.

This action illustrates the firmness of the authorities against dangerous practices. The Environmental Police call on citizens to remain vigilant and civic-minded in order to protect public health and the environment.
