Arrest of Egyptian wrestler in Paris following Sexual assault allegation
An Egyptian Olympic wrestler has been detained in Paris on suspicion of sexual assault.
The athlete in question is 26-year-old Mohamed Elsayed, who previously secured a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling (-67 kg) in 2021.
His involvement in the 2024 Paris Olympics came to an early end when he was defeated in the round of 16 by Azerbaijan’s Hasrat Jafarov.
The incident leading to Elsayed’s arrest occurred around 5 a.m. near Café Oz in Paris.
According to the Paris public prosecutor’s office, he is accused of inappropriately touching a female patron.
Parisian authorities have tasked the 3rd Judicial Police District with handling the investigation.
A source familiar with the case mentioned that Elsayed was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
He is currently in police custody, while the alleged victim has officially filed a complaint.
Attempts to reach the Egyptian Wrestling Federation for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
