Tensions Emerge Between Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr at Real Madrid

As Real Madrid grapples with a slow start to their La Liga campaign, taking only five points from a possible nine, an emerging rivalry between Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr is stealing the spotlight. According to reports from La COPE, the tension between the two stars is already palpable, particularly following Vinicius Jr’s decision to take a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Las Palmas on Thursday night—a move that some interpret as a message to Mbappé.

Vinicius Jr, who has been at Real Madrid longer, took the penalty instead of Mbappé, which has been seen by some as a statement of his seniority within the squad.

“For me, it’s a sign saying: ‘I’m in charge here,’” a journalist commented. This internal struggle for dominance is not just about team dynamics but also about individual accolades, especially with the Ballon d’Or in mind. Scoring goals, even from penalties, plays a crucial role in securing such honors.

Interestingly, Vinicius has only taken four penalties during his time at Real Madrid, and five in his entire career.

In contrast, Mbappé has taken 51 penalties, highlighting the difference in experience between the two when it comes to spot-kicks.

Former Real Madrid player Guti weighed in on the situation during an appearance on El Chiringuito, urging Mbappé to assert himself more within the team. “Mbappé could have reacted differently. At Real Madrid, no one would have taken a penalty away from Cristiano Ronaldo, even if he had just joined the club two weeks earlier. That’s what I think,” Guti remarked.

As the season progresses, how this dynamic evolves could significantly impact both the team’s performance and the individual success of its star players.
