Burkina Faso / The e-criminal record: A digital revolution for access to justice in “the Land of Honest People”
Burkina Faso has made significant progress in judicial accessibility with the nationwide rollout of its e-criminal criminal record platform. Launched last week, this new digital initiative aims to modernize the judicial system by making it more accessible and transparent for all citizens.
During a press conference on September 6, 2024, Minister of Justice Edasso Rodrigue Bayala emphasized the transformative impact of this digital shift.
He reported a substantial increase in usage, with nearly 76,000 requests from January to September 2024, compared to just 11,000 requests in the same period in 2023.
The e-criminal record platform addresses the pressing need to streamline processing times and reduce costs associated with obtaining criminal records.
By digitizing these procedures, the platform also helps to combat corruption within the judicial system, ensuring fairer access to justice.
This modernization is a crucial step towards a more efficient and transparent public administration.
Additionally, Minister Bayala hinted at the potential elimination of paper-based criminal records in the near future, signaling a full transition to a digital administrative system.
He also encouraged media outlets to actively promote the platform to raise awareness and engage citizens with this innovative service.
The introduction of the e-criminal record system represents a significant advancement in Burkina Faso’s public service digitalization efforts, offering citizens quicker and more affordable access to vital documents needed for their personal and professional lives.
