2024 Tour du Faso: Moroccan EL KOURAJI wins the crown

Mohcine El Kouraji has secured the 2023 Tour du Faso title, becoming the sixth Moroccan cyclist to win the prestigious African race. His victory marks the end of Paul Daumont’s reign as champion.

El Kouraji, who stamped his authority on the race by winning the opening stage, maintained his lead throughout the ten-day event, displaying tactical prowess and consistency.

His triumph was sealed in the capital city of Ouagadougou, where the final stage concluded in dramatic fashion.

The last stage saw Malian rider Tiémoko Diamouténé emerge victorious in a thrilling sprint finish, crossing the line ahead of local favorite Daouda Congo from Burkina Faso and Dutch competitor Tom Wijfje. The stage was completed in 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 2 seconds.

This victory adds El Kouraji’s name to the illustrious list of Moroccan champions in the Tour du Faso’s history, further cementing Morocco’s strong presence in African cycling.

His performance throughout the tour demonstrated both individual excellence and strategic race management, characteristics that have become hallmarks of Moroccan cycling success in the region.
