Burkina Faso / Côte d’Ivoire: When exiles use manipulation to sow discord between two nations

For several months, the relationship between Burkina Faso, under President Ibrahim Traoré, and Côte d’Ivoire, led by President Alassane Ouattara, has been strained by a destabilization campaign orchestrated by certain Burkinabe exiles.

Hiding behind fake social media accounts and masking their identities, these individuals are intent on sowing discord between the two historically allied nations, spreading divisive and inflammatory messages that risk damaging the strong ties of fraternity and cooperation.

These manipulations have alarmed pan-Africanists and observers who view this surge in tensions with growing concern.

By disseminating false information and preying on sensitive topics, these troublemakers operate from the shadows, exploiting social media to plant seeds of hostility.

The Ivorian authorities are now urged to respond firmly. It is crucial for President Alassane Ouattara to take decisive action to prevent Côte d’Ivoire from being used as a base for operations that harm the country’s image and threaten its stable relations with Burkina Faso.

By barring these exiles from intervening in bilateral matters, the Ivorian government could reinforce peace and brotherhood with its Burkinabe neighbour.

Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire share a rich history and a deep solidarity forged over decades.

These two brotherly nations, united by shared communities, cultures, and a common vision, deserve to see their bonds protected from the harmful agendas of individuals seeking to undermine this unity.
