Mali / AES: The agenda for the audience between H.E. Assimi GOÏTA and the security ministers of the three member countries

Under the leadership of His Excellency General Assimi GOÏTA, President of the Transition and the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), a significant milestone has been reached in standardizing travel and identity documents across member nations. During a high-level meeting with the security ministers of the three member states, strategic decisions were made to propel this initiative forward.

As per directives from President GOÏTA, Burkina Faso’s current passport will serve as the unified travel document model for the AES. Additionally, Mali’s biometric national ID card has been selected as the standard identity document for the Confederation.

These choices aim to streamline the adoption process while ensuring the efficiency and simplicity of the new system.

Set to be fully implemented by 2025, this initiative is designed to enhance the ease of movement for citizens within AES borders and strengthen regional integration.

Beyond practicality, the harmonized documents will stand as a symbol of unity and shared aspirations among the three nations, reinforcing their collective pursuit of sovereignty and economic development.

This ambitious project is part of a broader effort to foster intergovernmental cooperation and facilitate the flow of people and goods.

It underscores the AES leadership’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits for their citizens, paving the way for a more cohesive and prosperous regional future.
