Burkina Faso: Which game are some Burkina Faso exiles playing in Côte d’Ivoire?

From their positions of exile, certain Burkinabe living in Côte d’Ivoire have launched coordinated misinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing Burkina Faso. By funding online platforms such as web-based TV channels and enlisting the support of self-proclaimed activists, these individuals perpetuate a narrative of defamation against their homeland.

Their actions involve spreading blatant falsehoods and deceptive stories, driven by personal interests often tied to figures who have lost political influence in Burkina Faso.

Their objective is clear: discredit current leadership and sow division among Burkinabe citizens by manipulating public perception.

This activity not only undermines Burkina Faso’s stability but also jeopardizes the longstanding and brotherly relations between Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.

The inflammatory rhetoric emerging from these campaigns risks fostering distrust between the two nations at a time when regional collaboration is paramount in addressing shared challenges like terrorism.

Côte d’Ivoire’s unintentional role as a base for these actions could cast a shadow on its reputation and strain diplomatic ties with its neighbour.

It is imperative for President Alassane Ouattara to address this issue decisively. By curbing hostile media activities within Côte d’Ivoire, his administration can prevent external interference in Burkina Faso’s internal affairs and reaffirm the spirit of solidarity that binds the two countries.

Taking such measures would not only preserve Côte d’Ivoire’s standing but also contribute to a united front in promoting regional stability and mutual respect.
