Burkina Faso: Fight against terrorism, 102 terrorists neutralised in the Boucle du Mouhoun region

Since December 1, 2024, the Burkinabe Armed Forces, supported by both air and ground units, have intensified their operations against terrorist groups, achieving remarkable victories on multiple fronts. These efforts aim to neutralize criminal elements, recover weapons, and restore national security.

The past week has witnessed a series of decisive successes. In the Boucle du Mouhoun region, a convoy of 102 heavily armed terrorists on motorbikes was spotted by scouts from the Barani detachment. On December 10, aerial surveillance tracked their movements to Borokuy.

Around 10 PM, precision airstrikes targeted the group while they rested, eliminating the majority. Survivors who sought refuge under trees and in nearby buildings were also neutralized.

The 10th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), deployed in the area, launched a ground assault to eliminate the remaining combatants and seize their arsenal.

Terrorists attempting to retrieve their wounded were also taken down. In total, the operation recovered over 100 weapons, including AK-47s, PKMS, and 12.7 mm heavy machine guns, along with significant logistical equipment.

Elsewhere, the successes continued. In the Sahel region, airstrikes and ground ambushes foiled several planned terrorist attacks, particularly in Solhan and Arbinda.

In the Centre-North, the Burkindi battalion secured Forgui with precise artillery strikes. Meanwhile, in the Banwa region, militants attempting to escape toward the Mouhoun River were trapped by coordinated ground forces and airstrikes.

These operations demonstrate a highly coordinated strategy and effective use of air and ground assets. Elite units such as the 10th, 12th, 19th, and 20th BIR, alongside the Phantom unit, have played a pivotal role in these victories.

Through these results, the Burkinabe Armed Forces deliver a clear message to armed groups: surrender or face destruction. The all-out war against terrorism is underway, and the nation’s forces remain resolute in their mission to restore peace and security across Burkina Faso.
