Infrastructure: Togo accelerate road infrastructure development to boost connectivity and economic growth

In a bid to enhance transport infrastructure and improve connectivity across the country, the Togolese government has embarked on an ambitious road modernization program.
This initiative aims not only to ease traffic flow but also to drive economic and social progress by facilitating trade and improving mobility for citizens.
Among the flagship projects is the rehabilitation and expansion of National Road No. 5, a crucial 120-kilometer route linking Lomé to Kpalimé.
This major infrastructure upgrade, which includes urban improvements in Kpalimé, is backed by a substantial investment of 214 billion FCFA.
Once completed, the revamped road will significantly enhance the movement of goods and people, strengthening the economic vitality of the region.
Other significant projects are also underway, including the reconstruction of the 75-kilometer Sokodé-Bassar road, funded at 35 billion FCFA.
Additionally, January 2025 marked the launch of the Sokodé bypass construction—a strategic project aimed at reducing congestion and streamlining traffic flow in the area. The total investment for this initiative stands at 24 billion FCFA.
Looking ahead, the government is planning the expansion of National Road No. 1, a critical corridor for both the Togolese and regional economies.
With an estimated cost of $620 million, this large-scale project seeks to transform the highway into a modern and secure transport route, facilitating commerce and the efficient movement of goods.
Through these extensive infrastructure efforts, Togo is reinforcing its position as a key player in West Africa’s development landscape.
The continuous improvement of road networks aligns with the country’s broader vision for economic growth and regional integration, enhancing its attractiveness for investment while ensuring a better quality of life for its citizens.
