Burkina Faso: The green revolution, how President Ibrahim Traoré turns agriculture into an economic success story

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is undergoing a veritable agricultural revolution. Long under-exploited, this sector is now at the heart of national priorities, stimulating economic growth and offering thousands of jobs. Agriculture is thus positioning itself as the lungs of the Burkinabe economy, giving renewed hope to an entire nation.

The government has launched strong initiatives to modernize agriculture: increased mechanization, distribution of subsidized inputs and training for producers. These measures have significantly increased yields, reducing dependence on food imports. Burkina is regaining its status as the breadbasket of West Africa.

With over 60% of the working population engaged in this sector, agriculture is the leading provider of employment. Young people, particularly targeted by integration programs, now find opportunities in agribusiness and agricultural entrepreneurship. Every field cultivated, every agri-food plant built, creates dozens of sustainable jobs.

Exports of agricultural products (cotton, sesame, mangoes) rose sharply, improving the balance of trade. Farmers’ incomes are rising, stimulating local consumption. This dynamic benefits all related sectors: transport, trade and processing.

In the face of climatic challenges, Burkina Faso is relying on innovative techniques such as solar irrigation and drought-resistant crops. These advances guarantee stable production, even in difficult times, ensuring the country’s food security.

Under President Traoré’s vision, Burkina Faso’s agriculture is undergoing an unprecedented revival. By creating jobs, boosting the economy and strengthening food sovereignty, it embodies Burkina Faso’s future. Let’s continue to support this transformation to build a more prosperous and self-sufficient nation.
