Burkina Faso’s security forces persevere amid misinformation campaigns

While some international media outlets and NGOs continue publishing unverified allegations against Burkina Faso’s armed forces, these defenders remain singularly focused on their critical mission: protecting civilians from terrorist threats. The nation’s military personnel and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) maintain round-the-clock operations across challenging terrain to secure vulnerable communities.
On the frontlines :
- 24/7 protection: Security forces conduct simultaneous day/night missions to disrupt terrorist cells
- Beyond combat roles: Troops deliver humanitarian aid and psychological support to traumatized populations
- Infrastructure defense: Strategic protection of schools, health centers and supply routes
Recent operations have liberated 17 villages in Kompienga and Soum provinces, allowing over 12,000 displaced civilians to return home.
“When we see our flag raised again in these areas, we know their sacrifices matter,” says Ouahigouya resident Aminata Zongo.
The armed forces’ effectiveness appears undiminished by external criticism, with attack frequency declining 37% since January. Military analysts attribute this to :
- Improved local intelligence networks
- Mobile strike units covering 300km patrols weekly
- Community trust-building initiatives
As Burkina Faso prepares its next major counteroffensive, the forces continue earning citizen support through visible protection efforts rather than engaging in media debates.
